Squacco Heron today at Snowlands Fisheries, Par. Sorry there's so many images, but it's not every day you get a Squacco Heron up the road from where you live, and I have to THANK Ashley for letting me know it was there. I am going to get that iphone Ash! It's a beautiful bird.

I did get out this evening… One hour at Par!
Just before we left Par I spotted something over the far side of the pool… A Black Tailed Godwit (I hope!)… Not very good shots at that distance. A nice addition to the Abbot’s patch list though.
I’ve booked a week’s holiday today… Soon! Can’t wait :- )

Sunday...

I find it difficult to write up the posts when I am running behind, especially after being at work when the weekend is a distant memory, and I have work to do at home also! I have to look through my shots to remind myself :- )

A couple of hours spent at Walmsley on Sunday (when we met up with Ashley & Kay) did produce some excitement… a Grey Heron tussling with a meal. We never did decide what the meal was (maybe eel… maybe slow worm). We watched it for what seemed like about 10 minutes. It was obviously fighting back. The Heron was bothered by it, to say the least. It swallowed it and it wriggled back out. It swallowed it again, with water… it wriggled back out. This went on… and on! The Heron did not give up though and eventually… submission, and not by the Heron!

As I had decided to go for some shots of the previous day’s Spotted Flycatcher, Ashley & Kay decided to follow. We saw the SF, but again my shots were not good. We called at Colliford on the way back. The Black Duck avoided us again, but we did see a Cuckoo sitting with a very vocal Swallow on an electric line! We all called at Par for a short walk before heading home.

Late night… but worth it and I have an easy day tomorrow!

Had a great evening; Its late, but I had to do my post! I have realised more than ever that my learning curve is only just beginning.

I met up with Derek Julian this evening (Chairman of the CBWPS) (after fighting my way through traffic!). I instantly realised he was a very hard act to follow. Thank you Derek… very much appreciated and I think we may have recruited a new member so a good evening‘s work!

I had two life ticks… Red Legged Partridge and a Grey Plover. I would never have spotted either on my own!

I have seen Hares for the first time in my life, and boxing!… A Fox that I am sure if Derek had a camera to hand he would have captured. I didn’t of course! The camera was to hand, but I was not on the ball. In fact, I have not been very dedicated to the camera at all, as can be seen from my shots.
