I spent a good couple of hours at the back doorstep watching the garden today on a very needed head count. With the dark mornings and dark nights I don’t get accurate head counts in the winter so today was the ideal opportunity as I HAD to stay in. I was rewarded… My first sight of GS Woodpecker in the garden for months… Redwing in the trees. Bullfinch, Blackcap, Firecrest and Goldcrest all showed themselves!

I took some pictures, but the light was not good, as usual at the moment so I’ve put up the best of a bad bunch!

So, my garden day list today:-

1. Herring Gull
2. Woodpigeon
3. Collared Dove
4. Great Spotted Woodpecker (male)
5. Pied Wagtail
6. Wren (heard)
7. Dunnock
8. Robin
9. Redwing
10. Blackbird
11. Blackcap (M & F)
12. Goldcrest
13. Firecrest
14. Great Tit
15. Blue Tit
16. Coal Tit
17. Long Tailed Tit
18. Magpie
19. Jay
20. Carrion Crow
21. Starling
22. House Sparrow
23. Chaffinch
24. Bullfinch

  3. Angie as you know I would be like a dog with two tails if my avian shots even approached this quality. A grand post, thank you.

  4. Hi Angie,
Well what a panel! That's a quite diverse one and despite the low light you did some nice pictures! I love the robin but the other shots are really nice too, especially the squirrel and the blackcap! I would like to see one blackcap one day!! never seen it!

  6. What a great collection of visitors! I have already told Trevor that I shall be moving in as your lodger at this rate! You really get a stunning variety in your garden, I would probably pass out with shock if a Gold or Firecrest visited mine! You did well to get photos too, it is so difficult at this time of year.

Great stuff Angie and a cheeky Squirrel to round it off with.

  7. Wow, great that you are seeing Goldcrests and Firecrests in your garden at the moment. We see a Goldcrest every now and then, but it must be so exciting to see the Firecrest.

Our garden birds have been feeding frantically recently too. We had a Great Spotted Woodpecker visit the garden twice last week and today as well!

    Great photos, thanks for sharing

  12. I'm glad I'm finally catching up on the blogs - your collection is wonderful. Whoever said the birds on your side of the pond are dull & nondescript? And always interesting to see the similarities and try to pay attention to the differences - all hints of the evolution of species. Thanks
