Blue Tit

.
My highest count of Blue Tits in the garden after last year's breeding season was 8. This slowly reduced to 2. I suspect, amongst other things, the local Sparrowhawk may have had a little to do with the decline. This is one of the lucky ones I suppose. I love the way they hold the sunflower seeds on a branch to strip them.

  1. hi Angie,
It might also be only a annual variation, let's hope this is not due to the sparrow hawk! Nice beautiful picture you got!

  3. Thanks Chris. I know they have a few tries and only a few survive, but it doesn't make it feel any better when you watch them disappear :-(
    Thank you Keith.

  4. I think Chris may be right. I have never seen any bird of prey in our garden but I suspect they are about. It is a pity we are down to just two...also the Great Tits have dwindled and the only real success stories being Starlings, Sparrows and Chaffinches. I suppose the Firecrest, Goldcrest and Blackcaps return this winter could also be counted as a success.

  6. T - more worrying is the definite lack of Greenfinch.
Thank you Adrian. It was sitting on the naughty Squirell's perch, so it was close!
