On a coach heading for London on the 27th of November 1799 ' Coleridge' saw and jotted in his notebook:-
“Starlings in vast flights drove along like smoke, mist, or any thing misty without volition - … some moments glimmering & shivering, dim & shadowy, now thickening, deepening, blackening!"
I love Starlings with their wings a sheen of purples and greens. They are noisy, cheeky and very, very bossy!

Yes they are and they have beautiful colors patterns... Your tow pictures are wonderful, especially the second!
ReplyDeleteThank you Chris.
ReplyDeleteIt's a pity that Samuel Coleridge is not with us to see these stunning pictures Angie, I am sure that they would inspire him!
ReplyDeleteLovely Starlings,cracking shots.
ReplyDeleteLike Chris, your second shot does it for me.
John.
Wow Angie - you have been busy! I've been away from blogs for a few days - just fascinating seeing what you have had around lately - and good photos. In spite of starlings often posing problems for native birds in NA, I sort of agree with you - they are fun to watch - and listen to - terrific mimics.
ReplyDeleteMike - Thank you. It is a pity, but it is evidence that they have been appreciated for many, many years. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThanks John. They are easy to get up close to in our garden!
Thank you too Chris. They certainly are expert mimics!
