An unusual addition to the garden life list!
Today, we added Moorhen to the garden life list! Just before leaving for work this morning I noticed an unusual shape in the tree and it was being hassled by a Jay. I was amazed when I realised it was a Moorhen. I have always thought it was possible that a Mallard may drop in on the stream that runs down the rear of the garden, as they pass over frequently, but never expected a Moorhen to add to the list!

That's an amazing coincidence. I've never seen a Moorhen in a tree and that's twice in a week they've been seen and posted.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I thought when I saw it Adrian, although I have seen them on feeding tables, believe it or not! It was obviously trying to escape from something like a cat and then ended up trying to escape from a Jay! Our stream is not the safest place a Moorhen could choose to set up home!

ReplyDeleteIt was unusual for me Frank! Never been so excited to see a Moorhen, not to mention the Jay who was within feet of me and was more interested in the Moorhen than me standing by the fence glaring at it :-)
